Members of our nation’s “Baby Boom” generation, born between 1946 and 1964, began observing their 55th birthdays in 2001. Of the more than 78 million Baby Boomers living in the United States, the majority will reach age 65 somewhere between the years of 2010 and 2030.
The immense size of the Boomer population is bound to have far-reaching impacts on the country’s labor markets, Social Security and retirement funding, retail consumption, personal savings and investments, and – most certainly – real estate. More than other demographic segments, Boomers have specific needs and demands in real property transactions; they expect beyond-the-call service from their real estate representatives; and they may encounter unique tax and investment consequences of which practitioners must be aware. In addition, real estate buyers and sellers in other, and older, demographic groups also will have particular problems and needs to which licensees will be asked to attend.
In discussing these and related topics, “Real Estate for Boomers and Beyond ” extensively references U.S. Census Bureau data, the GI Bill for Housing and Education, studies conducted by or for Purdue University, the National Association of REALTORS, and the National Social Security Administration, the Fair Housing Act of 1968 and its amendments and accompanying executive orders, the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997, the Pennsylvania Real Estate Licensing and Registration Act, and recent federal and state court decisions.
This is a full-day course. It fulfills 7 hours of the 14 hours of
mandatory continuing education (MCE) required by the Pennsylvania State Real
Estate Commission for salesperson's or broker's license renewal.
